Knitting Along The Way

For those of you who knit, you can find me on Ravelry here:  http://www.ravelry.com/people/Jackjnston .  Friend me if you are on Ravlery.  If you’ve been wanting to start knitting, or been wanting to improve your knitting “game”, Ravelry is the single most excellent resource that a knitter can go to other than a constant expert knitter at their side.  Between Ravlery and YouTube, I’ve grown in my mad skilz by leaps and bounds since that first scarf at book club during the month of The Friday Night Knitting Club, thanks to Diane.  During the last road trip, I learned how to make socks:  http://jackjnston.blogspot.com/2009/08/mammoth-cave-ky.html.  This trip, I am planning on learning how to knit two socks at one time on one circular needle.  Because how cool would that be to finish both socks at the same time?  I just placed an order with Knitpicks and did the standard shipping so here’s hoping it arrives in time.  I ordered a long circular needle, some sock yarn and this book:

I also ordered some wool to make a couple of felted cozies for my Kleen Kanteen.  In the spirit of the seasons that I travel with my Kleen Kanteen, I got some yarn to make a red, white and blue one for traveling in the USA and I also got green, white and orange for my Irish music excursions.  Unfortunately, felting requires washing the item in hot water in the washer to shrink it down, so I won’t be able to use it for the trip if I make it during the trip.  I’ve never felted before so I thought this project would be a good one to try the technique.

We shall see how much I actually knit on the trip.  Last time, we were almost home before I even got started!
